Some ideas for CAS for IB DP students from the EdQwest Team

The Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) component of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an important aspect of the programme that encourages students to be involved in activities outside of their academic studies that promote personal and social development. CAS activities should be challenging, but also enjoyable and rewarding. Here are a few ideas for CAS activities that IB DP students could consider:

  1. Volunteer work: Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and make a positive impact. Consider volunteering at a local shelter, hospital, or non-profit organization. Some ideas for volunteer work might include helping out at a food bank, assisting with fundraising events, or providing companionship to elderly or disabled individuals. Volunteering can be a rewarding experience that allows you to make a difference in the lives of others and contribute to your community.
  2. Sports or physical activity: Participating in sports or other physical activities can promote personal and social development, as well as improve physical health. Consider joining a team or club, or participate in individual activities such as running, yoga, or dancing. Sports and physical activities can help you develop teamwork skills, improve your physical fitness, and reduce stress. They can also be a great way to make new friends and have fun.
  3. Artistic pursuits: Engaging in artistic pursuits such as painting, drawing, music, or theater can help develop creativity and self-expression. Consider joining an art or music club, or take a class to learn a new artistic skill. Artistic pursuits can be a great way to relax and express yourself creatively. They can also help you develop new skills and gain confidence in your abilities.
  4. Environmental projects: Environmental projects can help raise awareness about important environmental issues and promote sustainability. Consider organizing a beach clean-up, planting trees, or creating an environmental awareness campaign. Environmental projects can be a great way to make a positive impact on the world and learn about important issues such as climate change and pollution.
  5. Leadership roles: Leadership roles, such as becoming a member of the student council or starting a club, can help develop leadership skills and promote personal and social development. Leadership roles can be a great way to learn important skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, and can also provide an opportunity to make a positive impact on your school or community. At EdQwest, we have a Work Experience Programme (WEP) where IB DP students can experience what the real world of work actually looks like, by actively participating in our day-to-day work which includes Business Strategy Development, developing new marketing ideas, preparing social media content, managing one or more of our social media channels, and much more.

Remember, the most important thing is to choose activities that are meaningful and enjoyable for you. CAS activities should be challenging, but also enjoyable and rewarding. Consider what interests you and what causes you feel passionately about, and look for ways to get involved in those areas. By participating in CAS activities, you can develop valuable skills, make a positive impact, and have fun while doing it.
